 AUGUST 2023

We enjoyed a month filled with more blessings.    With joy we were able to assist with the Health Talents surgery week as well as home visits and the feeding of the children in Santa Maria.

 Surgery Week

This months surgery saw many children as we were able to provide plastics surgery for cleft palates and lips as well as other needs.  In addition to plastics, general and urology surgeries were performed.

So filled with joy that the plastics surgeon was able to remove a large amount of tissue from under each armed that allowed her to put her arms down by her side for the first time in many years.

The lady in the dark pink was a patient who heard the baby in post-op crying and came over to help comfort her.

The Rains

Along with the blessings came the rain.  We came across multiple landslides in our travels this month in addition, we helped a family from the village when their home collapsed from the mud slides.

We received a call for help one morning after a long night of rain.  Fidel, who is our local helper on our home constructions in Santa Maria, told us his home had just been in a mud slide.  He does not own the land above him but it started sliding down the mountain and cave in his back wall, filling the house with mud.  We were able to help clear the mud out reinforce the dirt and provide the means for them to have a concrete wall built to avoid future issues.

Augustina was all smiles when we came to visit her on Friday after we had had another night of torrential rains. Here is a picture of their new back wall.   The wall held and the family of 9 were so grateful and filled with joy.

Lorena worked with us for many years at the feeding center.  She was unable to get pregnant.  We took her and her husband to several medical appointments.  Medicine was prescribed that was very expensive and we could not afford.  While we and Lorena's family were in prayer regarding how to go forward,  Lorena became pregnant!  That was 5 years ago, she had baby number 2 this past week.  God is good.

Our daily view of one of three volcanoes that surround us.  We must never tire of God's beauty that He has placed in our lives.

We are so grateful for your prayers and support that allows us to provide God's love and support to those in need here in Guatemala.  Thank you for helping us live out 1 John 3:18.
