March 2018

March 2018

Though from our previous post in February you heard about our change in financial position,  March opened up with great blessings and support.  We had visits from the Lee and Becky Fouts as well as Jack, Jennifer, Hannah, and Abigail London.  They spent their time coming along beside us, helping build houses, kitchens, and serving at the children's feeding center.   Their presence was very precious to us and reminds us that we are not alone in the work here in Guatemala.

As a note:  kitchens are typically outside the home.  When a house is built the stove is out in the elements.  When funds are available, we are able to build a kitchen to get the stove and firewood out of the elements.

Surgery Week

The medical clinic for March was eyes and orthopedics.  The leader likes to say "the blind see and the lame walk".   It is always a special time for us when we volunteer at the surgery clinic.  This month over 100 patients were seen during our surgery week.   God indeed used human hands to make the blind see and the lame walk.

Children's Feeding Center
Our constant, other than the surgery week,  is our time at the children's feeding center.  We so enjoy the times each week we are able to spend feeding the children.  As you can see from the faces below,  they are beautiful and love God.

Women's Bible Study

During the month we were involved in distributing planting boxes for the women in the bible study at San Lucas.   We delivered 14 boxes in all with plantings for spinach, beets, and carrots.  It was a special time spent with the women and two weeks later we were able to revisit them and pray with each family.

ASTRID

Finally,  Astrid's surgery.   We thank all of you who sent funds to help Astrid with her eye surgery.  Unfortunately this is not a type of surgery we do at the medical clinic so we had to acquire outside services for the operation.   Last Monday we took Astrid for her blood work,  as you can tell, it was not an enjoyable experience at the time although her and her family certainly enjoyed the ice cream afterwards.

Astrid's surgery as been scheduled for this Monday, April 2nd.   We are to pick the family up at 9:30 with surgery to begin at 11:00 a.m.   We are hopeful that the family is able to follow the doctor's instructions before and after the surgery.  Our first hurdle will be for Astrid to not eat nor drink after midnight tomorrow night.  We have send reminders and are going to have a visit to her tomorrow night to remind her again.  If she does not follow the orders,  the surgery will be delayed.

We will get a post out as soon as we are able to see the results of the surgery.

Finally,  let us not forget the reason for this season, for Resurrection Sunday.  It is a very depressing time here in Guatemala for believers if we did not have the hope of the resurrected Jesus Christ.   As we have said in past years,  there are 40 processionals during the Lent season, when over 500,000 people descend on this small 10 x 10 block town of Antigua.   All 40 processionals are symbolizing and demonstrating His death.   There are only 2 processionals that celebrate our risen Savior.

As believers we know and celebrate His resurrection for the Glory of God

We thank you so much for your prayer and financial support.  We are totally dependent on God and His resources to be able to be missionaries here in Guatemala and thank Him every day for His abundance.

Happy Resurrection Sunday!!!
