November/December 2015

The past 4 weeks have been very exciting.  We had the eye clinic at Clinica Ezell.  It consisted of 2 surgeons and 13 staff including Cary and I.  I was surprised that this team was low in numbers but at the end of the week God had taken the loaves and fishes and multiplied again.  We performed 105 surgeries.  It was amazing to see.

The week of Thanksgiving the church built 5 houses and we got an opportunity to help with 3 of the house builds.  One of the houses we built on Thanksgiving Day and later that night we had the opportunity to thank God for a delicious meal with our sweet missionary friends.

Now, about an answered prayer.  The last house we lived in had no internet and it was hard to call back home so we moved to where we live now.  Soon after we moved we noticed we had no water.  For 3-4 days each week we had no water from 9:00am - 7:30pm (some days 10:00pm)  We have tried to manage.  Thankfully our rent contract ended in November.  We have been trying to find a house.  At one point we had 3 different realtors.  They would show us one house and that was it.  We started looking on the internet for houses but most of them were rented in our price rand and the internet sites were not up to date.

We were feeling discouraged.  I prayed and prayed that God would find us a house.  One day a realtor showed us a house that was a ways out of town and very small.  I wasn't sure our two chairs with an end table would even fit in the living room.  When we left we decided we should probably take it, but within an hour another realtor called and wanted to show us another house.  This house was bigger but rough.  It would need repairs.  It doesn't have closets, stove, or a table.  It also had one "problem" according to the landlord.

A while back a man from Coban's parents were ill and the doctor told him he needed to move his parents to a warmer climate.  So he moved to Antigua and rents the back part of the house but he uses the garage to sell coffee to support his family.

The man was very worried because the landlord told him when she rents the front of the house, where the garage is attached, he would have to move his coffee shop because the garage goes with the front of the house and to those renters.

We also couldn't afford the rent but really wanted to line in town so we could walk and save gas.  So we prayed and left it with God.  If the landlord would go down $125 per month in rent of her asking price we knew it would be a miracle.  Even the realtor said that she would not take the offer but would forward it to her.  The landlord was getting married a week later and wanted to be done with the responsibility so she agreed.  We were so surprised and thankful.  God is so good.  We still have a lot of work to do but we feel this is where He wants us and that is a great and gratefully humbling place to be.

To all  Merry Christmas and cherish your time with friends and family during this season.

Love Cary and Rita
